Lest We Forget

November 10, 2006 at 9:04 am (Uncategorized)

Tomorrow is Remembrance Day, and I feel everyone should take two minutes at eleven o’clock to reflect on what the day means. It is in memory of the men and women who scarificed their lives to protect us from tyranny.

I am quite anti-war in general and do not agree with the wars that are going on today. The wars going on today, the two major ones being Iraq and Afghanistan are basically invasions. I may even agree with Afghanistan at times, although I still think our soldiers should not be there.

The Afghanis were allowing the Taliban to flourish and some action was needed there, but Iraq was an all out invasion, plain and simple, based on false information. I am still convinced that the Iraq war was just a ploy to get Saddam out of power and take over the oil supply.

Tomorrow let us remember for a few moments the wars that countries used to got involved in to stop madmen from committing acts such as the infamous Kristallnacht which is considered by many historians to be the start of the Holocaust.

In closing here I will post the traditional poem, which by the way is also on the back of our ten dollar bill.

In Flanders field the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow

Loved and were loved, and now we lie,

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch:be yours to hold it high

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

Righteous Right Two

November 6, 2006 at 7:51 pm (Uncategorized)

Mega-church preacher, evangelical leader, and presidential spiritual advisor Ted Haggard is in a huge crap load of trouble. He was hanging out with a gay prostitute for about three years and also doing meth that the guy scored for him it seems. He was fired over the weekend for sexually immoral misconduct.

What is up with the righteous right I ask myself. I was reading a strange theory on the web over the weekend and I am starting to believe that it might be true. The theory was basically about all these bible thumping homophobic preachers and righteous republicans being closet homosexuals. Based on the scandals of the last few months, this theory may not be so far fetched after all.

Instead of going on condemning everyone I believe it is time that the righteous right starts to look inward and stops conning everyone. As for Preacher Haggard he is definitely not done conning people, I predict he will return in a few months and claim that he is cured of his homosexual desires and write a book about his miraculous recovery.

Playing Saddam Again

November 6, 2006 at 7:12 pm (Uncategorized)

The US Administration is using Mr Saddam Hussein once again, this time to get Republican votes in the the midterm elections tomorrow. The announcement of his execution gets made only two days before the election. How much of a coincidence is that, I ask myself.

The whole report by the judge will not be out till at least Thursday but for some reason it was super important to announce his fate yesterday. Come on, who do they think that they are fooling with all this. It is obvious that they have lost support on the so- called Iraq war/ occupation and that they needed some good Iraqi news before the elections.

The US Administration is just playing Saddam Hussein once again for their own purposes like they have been for the last twenty years or so. I will not defend Saddam here, he is an evil man and he is responsible for the deaths of thousands of people.

The question that needs to asked is while he was doing all this killing, who turned a blind eye to him. The answer is the USA. They were friends back then. He was the lesser evil then I guess, but it is right to manipulate a lesser evil for political gain, I think not.

What is real sad in all this, is that many people will
not notice and vote Republican anyways. I really do hope that  some
voters  will take note and decide not to support Bush and his
Republican buddies.

Income Trusts

November 1, 2006 at 6:12 pm (Uncategorized)

The income trust bubble burst today. The Minisiter of Finance basicaly poked it with a giant pin one could say by applying some new tax laws. I never agree with the Conservatives as anyone who reads this blog knows but they have done one good thing since getting into power and this is it.  I think I deserve to give them credit on this.

The income trust conversions were a way for big business and their investors to get away with paying hardly any tax. What was basically happening is that the companies were exploiting a huge tax loophole and more companies were getting in on the income trust bandwagon.

I hate taxes as much as the next guy, but why should I be paying taxes when huge companies like BCE and Telus are not. BCE and Telus were both getting ready to convert to income trusts but I believe they will decide not to go through with it now.

Bravo to the Conservatives on getting some tax fairness for Canadians. Of course I still disagree with them on all other issues, such as the bad environment plan they put forth, wanting to scrap the gun law, their closeness to the religious right, and so on.

Nork Nukes Revisited

November 1, 2006 at 5:34 pm (Uncategorized)

So it seems like Kim Jong-Il has a desire to get back to negotiations concerning his nuclear program. It seems like the Chinese were successful in talking to him on the subject. Secret talks were held over the past few days in Beijing to get the North Koreans back to the bargaining table of disarmanent.

What I am reading on various news sites today is that Mr Kim Jong-Il was missing his party fund(he has a liking for expensive cognacs) and that is the real reason he is coming back to talk. What happened is that the US had frozen up some bank accounts of the North Korean leader and his cronies, close to a year ago. Mr Kim Jong Il was not happy anymore.

No one likes to get hurt financially it seems, not even Mr Kim Jong-Il. Let us all hope that this will stop his nuclear bomb testing and that North Korea disarms. The world definitely does not need the North Koreas ready to push the nuclear button.
