Muhammad Yunus

The Nobel Peace Prize was given today to Mr. Yunus and Grameen Bank(the bank he founded) for helping to fight poverty in the world. Grameen Bank is based in Bangladesh and is helping many poor people in that country break away from the grip of poverty.

At first I looked at this news and said to myself that it seemed like a strange choice for a peace prize but then I realized that it is not so out of place. Poverty is a major problem on our planet and getting people away from poverty will lead to peace.

Many of the conflicts on this planet are a result of the haves against the have-nots, the classic struggle of the rich against the poor. Fighting poverty is a good method to put an end to these problems and make this planet a more peaceful place.
