Reality Overload

I was flipping channels on the old TV last night and all I could seem to find were reality TV shows. I think the TV networks are overdoing it with this format. It is getting slightly ridiculous.

This whole reality TV phenomena started I believe with Survivor roughly six years and there seems to be no end in sight. Now the junk out there is just unreal. I can not believe that a market for all this crap exists.

Who really cares how washed out actors raise their kids or if six people can get along on some island or if some quasi-celebrities can lead a simple life. Then of course there is the other genre, where they think they can sing, dance, be comics, have talent, have no fear, etc.

Obviously this type of TV is cheap to produce, there are no actors to pay. You just hand out some prize at the end, and voila. Instead of paying an actor for say 20 episodes at the end you just give the winner, a hundred thousand and you are done. Some of it may even be funny, but in a pathetic way I think.

Whatever happened to quality entertainment, when did it just disappear. I think that maybe it got too expensive, or that people just got creatively lazy. In the end the real question is what is the perception of reality, maybe reality TV is the new reality.
