Big Bad Media

May 26, 2006 at 10:02 am (Uncategorized)

So Harper is mad at the media, especially the media on Parliament Hill, it seems. Stephen Harper says journalists on Parliament Hill are biased against his government and have become the opposition to his Conservative administration. He will now control which media he talks to and which reporters get to ask questions.

What are they not being nice to him. Poor Mr Harper, what did he think being in charge was fun and games and that he was not accounatble for anything. Is he getting bothered by them on Kyoto, Afghanistan stuff, and his friendliness with Bush.

Somene needs to point out what he is doing to Canadians, given the fact that there is no real opposition in the house of commons.

I think he is just being immature on this, saying look I am getting picked on. I do not believe the media acts any different with a Liberal governement. The media was there reporting Adscam and other issues with the Liberals.

Mr.Harper as the saying going, if you can not stand the heat get out of the kitchen. Mr. Harper went as far as saying yesterday that this kind of stuff does not interest Canadians. It should concern us all if the governemnt is interferimg with the freedom of the press.

Messages From a Cave

May 24, 2006 at 11:12 am (Uncategorized)

OK, how does he do it. By he, I mean Bin, that cave dwelling Bin Laden. He is somewhere hiding in a cave and still managing to send messages to websites and audio tapes usually to the Aljazeera Arab news network.

This guy has been hiding in some cave in the mountains along the  Pakistan/Afghanistan border area for close to five years now, but he seems well connected. He must have a really good donkey express that picks up those tapes of his.

If I recall correctly they bombed the heck out of that region for a few years and checked many caves but they never found the guy. Sometimes I wonder if they let the guy get away on purpose, because having Bin Laden on the run justifies the war on terror.

As long as the head terrorist is on the run you can keep bombing Afghanistan and Iraq saying that all is linked and that we have to keep fighting terrorism. It is especially convincing if the guy keeps sending tapes. To further speculate on my conspiracy theories maybe they have captured Bin Laden and have him make tapes from time-to-time. All is possible, who knows.

Bored of Da Vinci

May 23, 2006 at 2:51 pm (Uncategorized)

Everyone is writing about this movie that I decided I should add my two cents as well. First let me start off by saying that I have not read the book or seen the movie. I was never into mysteries. For those of you that are interested in the Da Vinci Code this is your spoiler alert(stop reading), if you want to know what it is all about read on .

The whole premise of Da Vinci Code is that  Mary Magdalene was the wife of Jesus and was in fact pregnant with his child at the time of his crucifixion, and that the church has been hiding this secret for two thousand years.  So there you have it, that is the big secret. Should you spend time reading the book or watching the movie is up to you. Like I said earlier I was never into mystery novels, and I am even less interested in novels, that base themselves on quasi-fact.

I will not scream that the book is sacrilege or anything like that. I am no expert in theology or theological cover ups and the reasons for them. By birth I am Roman Catholic, but I do not actively practice any religion. I do believe in a higher power but have no real name for it. This book will not answer any big religious questions for anyone I think.

If some people are looking for that mystical answer, the Da Vinci Code, will probably just confuse you more, remember it is fiction, just a story.  Religion is a personal thing and looking for answers in fictious novels, that claim to be based on some fact, is not the solution.

Two More Years

May 18, 2006 at 12:50 pm (Uncategorized)

The Harper governement with the help of the broken Liberals have committed us to two more years in Afghanistan. There was no real debate on this, all was a done deal in just one day.

I have heard back from some people on my postings concerning Canada`s role in Afghanistan, and I will agree with some of what they have said. Canada`s role has been as a peacekeeper many times and we should be proud of that, but this time I am not convinced that this is the case.  Capt. Nichola Goddard of Calgary was killed in combat yesterday in Afghanistan, not in peacekeeping.

I still think that we should be bringing our soldiers home, and not extending their stay. The work that they are doing is noble work and something that they chose to do, but it is dangerous work. We are there to help George W fight his wars. What will be next for us, sending soldiers to Iraq, sure that is just peacekeeping as well, the war there finished three years ago.

Bring the men and women of Canada back I say, we are getting conned here, this is not peacekeeping by any means.

Interesting article to Canada from a mom that lost a son in Iraq.

Anyone Know a Sundance

May 18, 2006 at 11:58 am (Uncategorized)

Has anyone seen the sun. What is up with all this rain. I feel like I am living in London or Vancouver. Everyone is dropping into a depression. I believe we are up to about ten days of rain.

Sure they say April showers bring May flowers, but what the heck do showers in May bring us. I have posted before about global warming, but I am not sure if this is warming, it is really chilly as well. I am convinced we are messing up the planet somehow. The climate has become more and more unstable. We could count on those warm days in May, but I guess not this year.

In conclusion, does anyone know a sundance, there must be some ancient Maya, Aztec, or Inca dance we can use.

In the Name of Terror

May 12, 2006 at 11:45 am (Uncategorized)

In the name of terror our governement is starting to infringe on on our liberties. Our so called democracy is getting more compromised it seems.

Two stories that I came across this week have me worried about this. I heard that we have a Guantanamo North and also that the US is doing some major wiretapping it seems.

Gitmo North seems to have been set up near Kingston now, where we keep prisoners without charges, without trial, under secret evidence, and  under threats of deportation to torture. According to the report I saw, we are holding 4 men there right now, they are being held on so called "security certificates ". Whatever that may be. Should these four men be terrorsists we should charge them with a crime, not just be holding them like that. It is a dangerous precedent that Canada is embarking upon here

The other shocking news is that the National Security Agency in the US  has been collecting telephone records of millions of Americans. Sure we are not Americans but if you call to the US, you are getting recorded. It is just a matter of time before George W. convinces his new buddy Stephen, that we need to do this as well.

About twenty years ago, I was on a train in Europe and some guy I met told me that all our calls were being recorded. At the time I thought he was a crackpot but he was probably right, who knows.

In conclusion, I will say be careful reading my blog, big brother may be watching, you never know.

A quote from Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) on the subject. " Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. "

Highway Robbery- The Responses

May 9, 2006 at 7:56 am (Uncategorized)

My topic on how gas companies are just ripping us off lately has gotten me quite a lot of replies from my contacts.
Most of the people  that I have heard from say that they are trying, to use their cars less, which is a good thing. My cousin(Domenico) has an idea for the summer that people should try and that would hurt the good old gas companies.
The idea is try to use public transit from May to September. It is relaxing, you get to work less stressed, you can catch a snooze, do some reading(print out these blogs), etc. Should you not like public transit , how about biking or walking. May to September  the weather is usually good, come on give it a try.
For some radical opinions on gas prices, check out the video on this site.

Highway Robbery Part 2

May 5, 2006 at 9:14 am (Uncategorized)

In the past few weeks, the value of the Canadian dollar has climbed all the way to over 90 cents US which is great for us. One would think that our gas prices would drop since oil is traded in NYC in US dollars but there is no relief for us.

As I stated in this blog about a month ago, we are getting ripped off somewhere. I think the biggest place where we are getting ripped off is at the pump. These gas companies are just making fortunes.

Take ExxonMobil(Esso) as a good example of all this. These guys are making a fortune. Last year, Exxon made the biggest profit of any company ever, $36 billion, and the retiring CEO is getting a $400 million package. Sometimes they call this a golden parachute, in this case we can say it is a diamond parachute.

I will not say ban Esso oil, stop going there. It will have no impact. As my cousin was saying to me, we need to boycott them all. All the companies need to learn a lesson. Using alternative means of transportation is the solution, if you can, use public transit, take a bicycle, or walk.

We really need to stop our dependency on fuel, because if we do not they will just gouge us more.
